APC NEC to Meet July 24 to Decide on Ganduje’s Successor
APC NEC to Meet July 24 to Decide on Ganduje’s Successor
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled a crucial meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) for July 24, 2025, in Abuja, where a decision will be made regarding the party’s leadership following the resignation of its National Chairman,Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
This announcement was made by the APC Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on Monday in the nation’s capital.
Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, stepped down from his position as APC National Chairman last Friday, citing health-related issues. In line with the APC constitution and following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, was appointed to serve in an acting capacity.
Fuanter explained that the upcoming NEC meeting would determine whether Dalori will continue in the acting role until the party’s next national convention or if a new substantive chairman will be selected.
“As you are all aware, the National Executive Committee is the highest decision-making body of the party,” said Fuanter. “Therefore, any decision made by the NWC, including the appointment of an acting chairman, must receive the endorsement of the NEC.
“If during the meeting the NEC decides that a new chairman should be nominated, such a nomination will be accepted and forwarded to the national convention, where a final decision on the party’s substantive chairman will be made.”
He confirmed that the NEC meeting is proposed to take place on the APC national secretariat premises in Abuja.
During the Monday NWC session, members also formally accepted Ganduje’s resignation and expressed appreciation for his service to the party. Fuanter emphasized that the NWC's decision was unanimous and guided by the provisions of the party’s constitution.
“One of the key items addressed at the meeting was the formal acceptance of Dr. Ganduje’s resignation. His decision to step down on health grounds was respected and accepted by the committee,” he noted.
Additionally, the NWC reviewed preparations for upcoming by-elections in various constituencies. Fuanter assured that the party was working strategically to ensure the victory of APC candidates.
“Preparations are in top gear for the by-elections. The party is putting in place measures to ensure successful outcomes across all affected regions,” he said.
As the party navigates this transitional period, all eyes will be on the July 24 NEC meeting, where a clear direction on the party’s national leadership will be determined.
