Atiku May Never Become President – Daniel Bwala

Daniel Bwala, a presidential aide and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 elections, has said that the former vice president may never achieve his long-standing dream of becoming Nigeria’s president. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Bwala reflected on Atiku’s repeated attempts at the presidency, suggesting that his chances may have completely faded. “In all honesty,” Bwala said, “I believe it may never have been destined by God for him to become president. He’s done everything possible—he’s put in the work, the resources, the time—but still, he didn’t win. 2023 was his biggest opportunity, and I don’t think he’ll get anything like that again.” Bwala didn’t stop there. He also weighed in on the growing opposition coalition rumored to be forming ahead of the 2027 elections—a group said to include Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former APC leader Rotimi Amaechi. He expressed skepticism about the group’s ability to challenge President Bola Tinubu successfully. He criticized their choice of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform, arguing that the coalition lacks a solid plan or compelling alternatives to current government policies. “What I find strange is that this group of politically displaced individuals hasn’t been able to present any meaningful alternative—no fresh facts, no clear policies, nothing. Even during Peter Obi’s interview, he didn’t offer real counterarguments to the policies we’re implementing,” Bwala said. He also predicted that the coalition would crumble within six months due to internal conflicts, particularly over who gets to be the presidential candidate. Citing Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed, Bwala recalled: “Datti himself admitted that the biggest threat to this coalition is that everyone wants to be president.” “In a month, when they all sit down, mark my words—within six months, this so-called coalition won’t even be talked about anymore. It’ll fall apart,” he added confidently.
